Podcast 96 – The Block Ness Monster

In Episode 96, Jeff Belanger and Ray Auger sail out to Block Island in search of a Rhode Island legend that dates back to June of 1996. Commercial fishermen J.T. Pinney and Gary Hall hauled up a strange skeleton with their nets. They brought back the bones to shore to the intrigue of thousands… and the Block Ness Monster was born. The legend grew until the bones were stolen. Since then, the creature has taken on a life of its own.

Oh man, we’d love to see your pictures! Would you consider emailing them to us so we can share them on this page?

  1. I was there too. May still have my genuine Block Ness Monster tee shirt. Someone quickly made up a design and printed that week, looks just like the pic you have here.

The guy who said he had more pics…..load em up bro!

I immortalized the beast with a nice tat. Pic maybe one day. Pretty personal. I worked on a tuna boat in Little Harbor. Captain of the boat that hauled it in had it laid out on the jetty as you see there. I quote “This thing has a mother, and I DON’T want to be around when she comes back.”

Never seen anything like it. No rib articulations. Hole in the center of a cartilage skull. Whiskers, just like the water dragons of old. Just saying, it did not appear to be a fish, but really a serpent. Snake.

Last we saw of the carcass it was that very evening, some asshole had its mouth tip (the very end of it’s nose) in HIS mouth, swaying his head around and the vertebrae were separating in places.

Hey if you read this and you’re THAT guy, or better yet fool……. I just wanted to say again, what an utter and complete fool you were and are for doing that. Maybe others vandalized it too, but I saw YOU buddy. I have always wanted to whip your butt too for it, but I grew up and butt whipping is not the answer. So just respond and I will give you a chance to redeem yourself.
