In Episode 35 Jeff Belanger and Ray Auger park alongside Evergreen Cemetery on Route 67 in New Braintree, Massachusetts, in search of the ghost of Elsie. On April 18th each year her spirit is said to rise from her grave and wander by the stone wall next to the cemetery. She’s said to be the spirit of a bride who was murdered on her wedding day by a jealous groom. But what do we really know about Elsie? We investigate and learn there’s more to this ghost than just a story.

April 23, 2018As mentioned in the episode, The Newton family were murdered by their hired hand, Paul, but Paul’s life of crime didn’t stop there. Paul Mueller is actually thought to be the suspect responsible for the murders of dozens of families, all by axe, all eliminating the entire family. Bill James’ book The Man from the Train covers these cases in incredible detail. The Man on the Train is an amazing read, and it’s very spooky to think that Paul Mueller, who murdered Elsie Newton and her parents, went on to become a particularly brutal and savage serial killer whose bloody reign of terror spanned much of the country.

The audio quality is superb. I don’t normally listen to podcasts because I loose interest within 10 minutes. I actually stayed in my car to hear the entire cast. Keep it up Jeff & Ray, I love these stories, the reenactments crack me up! .

January 1, 2019I just finished The Man from the Train, came across this podcast doing some follow up on Mueller. This is from a chapter in Murder and Mayhem Central Massachusetts I found. Sadly, it looks like Mueller may have been detained in Portland, OR, but a downed telegraph line lost the communication confirming it was likely him.
